The most wonderful time of the year is finally here! If you’re looking for things to do this December to get you in the Christmas spirit, you’ve come to the right place.
With the holiday season in full effect, we couldn’t help but put together a lineup of events and activities happening here in Meridian for you and your family to enjoy. So put aside the wrapping paper, pause the last minute Christmas shopping, and delight in these once-a-year gatherings!
Santa’s Helpers Story Time
Join Mrs. Claus and Santa’s elves for a fun interactive story time every Monday until Christmas! Children will be able to interact and read Christmas stories brought to you by the Treasure Valley Children’s theater. This story time will take place at The Village at Meridian’s Cinema Lobby with two sessions every Monday, one at 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and is open to the public.
Christmas in Meridian
Take a stroll in downtown Meridian as the spirit of Christmas lights up the way! The 7th Annual Winter Lights Parade & Christmas Tree Lighting will take place in downtown Meridian on the evening of Friday, December 6. Start the night off with the Winter Lights Parade which will be en route Main Street, Carlton, and Second. The Parade will not only warm up the city with glowing lights, but will also help to keep your family warm with hot cocoa stations and a free ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Hint: to get the ride in the carriage come early and watch “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” at 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and cheer on participants of the Candy Cane Fun Run. The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place in the Generation Plaza at Main and Idaho. After the eventful night, local businesses and the community will host a variety of festive events perfect to celebrate the season as a family! Candy Cane Fun Run
Friday, December 6
Are you ready to run (or walk!) to the North Pole?! Spend the evening running to the North Pole in your favorite holiday costume or ugly sweater! The silly run will be leading the Winter Lights Parade down Main Street at 6:25 p.m., but don’t worry, your $5 entry fee includes a festive light to ensure you won’t be running in the dark! Meridian Symphony presents “Home for the Holidays”
Saturday, December 7
The Meridian Symphony will be putting on a holiday show at the Centennial Performing Arts Center, sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. Enjoy sounds of the season including Hess’ “A Christmas Overture,” a concert suite from “The Polar Express” and “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.” Performances will be at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with tickets found at christmasinmeridian.org.
Twilight Christmas Market
Wednesday, December 11
Running out of ideas on what to get your loved ones for Christmas? This unique indoor-outdoor holiday market is sure to have the perfect gift for anyone in your family! On December 11, from noon to 7 p.m., Meridian City Hall will be filled with vendors selling handmade gift items, seasonal foods, and holiday treats. You may have seen something similar to this Meridian market in the past, as Meridian City Hall has hosted a weekday Christmas bazaar featuring homemade items in the past, but this year is called to be the ultimate shopping experience as they’ve expanded the event to go both indoors and out, allowed food and beverage, holiday entertainment, and have extended the hours! Come on down and be ready to get festive in this ultimate Christmas Market!
The Magic of Holidays Light Show
The 12 days of Christmas will be a delightful experience at The Village at Meridian! Starting December 12 through December 23, one of the iconic buildings in the village will be transformed into a holiday show! From 6:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., on the :15 and :45, the shows will take place, alternating with the fountain shows and holiday music! This magical light show will occur above Anthropologie daily.
Children’s Winterland Festival
Saturday, December 14
Pause the last minute Christmas shopping and head down to the Boys & Girls Club in Meridian for this winter wonderland! The annual Children’s Winterland Festival will have your family caught up in Christmas as there will be a variety of Christmas themed activities! Take pictures with Santa, play Christmas themed games, decorate cookies, make ornaments and Christmas cards, write a letter to Santa, and so much more! With only 11 days till Christmas, this event is perfect to get the kids in the festive mood. Santa’s Coming to Town Christmas Bazaar
Saturday, December 14
Santa is coming to Kleiner Park for this second annual Christmas Bazaar! Come and enjoy great eats from local food trucks, live music, and a great variety of gifts ranging from local and custom goods for all ages. There will be a free scavenger hunt with great prizes for the kids along with a meet and greet with Santa! This event is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside of Kleiner Park!
Cookin’ with Kids: Winter Holiday Treats with a Twist
Saturday, December 14
One of the best parts of the holidays is the fun, delicious treats! Get creative and learn new recipes with natural sweetness (think honey and maple) to avoid highly processed cane sugar. In this class, you’ll learn how to make Paleo Cranberry Crisp and a warm and creamy Eggless-Eggnog, perfect to take to any holiday gathering! Kids are encouraged to come and create, and when you purchase a child’s ticket, adults are free! The class is help at the Boise Co-op at The Village at Meridian from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Tickets can be found at Eventbrite.com.
